about.
Dave Martin is an artist, filmmaker, and educator. Originally from North Carolina, he holds a BFA in Cinematography from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. After moving to Los Angeles and working freelance in the film industry, Dave pursued an MFA in Broadcast Cinema from Art Center College of Design in 2011. In 2013, he was selected for the Lasater Mill House Artist in Residency program in Winston-Salem, NC, and has exhibited drawings, paintings, and film installations in Los Angeles, Oakland, and San Francisco. A classically trained filmmaker, Dave’s practice makes use of multiple modalities from analog to digital, and is framed by traditional genres of still life, figurative, landscape, and abstract. His work engages with systems of how meaning is made, unmade, and remade in everyday contexts. In April of 2019 he and Nathaniel opened Then | Now| A Dream, an open-air public art installation in Antelope Acres, CA, heralding the launch of Art In Residence, of which Dave is a co-founder.
